Move Chick, Get Out The Way!

I just love catching up with my long time girlfriends. Although, we haven’t spoken for a period of time, it’s as if we pick up right where we left off. So, I was chatting it up with my bestie recently, when she suddenly launches into a pityparty of sulking and moaning about how life was turning out. I was taken aback in shock, this young lady has so much potential; how can she not see it.

At times, we can see all the greatness in a person, but if they don’t recognize it within themselves, they’re doomed!

Events in her life were not formulating as she expected them to, then doubt, frustration, and fear slowly began to seep in. She jumped into a rant about all the obstacles that kept her back from her aspirations. As she was babbling on, I had to stop her dead in her tracks. This chick’s perspective was warped! I have been an eyewitness to the progress she has made in her life thus far, and I had to give her a recap of all her accomplishments. Despite my attempts, I would say girly was “stuck on stupid”.

In the same manner as my gal pal, how many of you are standing in your own way, from pursuing your dreams? Obviously, nothing is blocking or trapping you, but You! The root of this problem is due to your own unconscious limiting beliefs.

Breaking Free From Bondage

Everyone has a story in their mind of what they’re capable of, or not capable of doing. Whether you believe it, or not, it will become your truth. Our thoughts and words are a self-fulfilling prophecy. You believe something to be true because the “facts” seem to support such belief. Limiting beliefs can control your thoughts and behaviors, and even sabotage the results you receive in life.

For instance, if you believe that you are unlucky, you unconsciously look for facts to support that rationale. But by internalizing this concept, you miss out on the evidence that proves that this is not the case. So, if you consider yourself unlucky, you will only see facts that support this belief.

Woman Trapped In A BoxWhat kept me in my own way for so long, was the skewed belief that I was a victim of circumstance. Everything was happening to me, and there was nothing in my power that I could do. Reactivity was my ally, so as each stimulus rushed into my environment there was a knee-jerking response.

I knew a radical change had to come. As I waited for the tide to shift in my favor, I discovered the powerful Law of Attraction, and my life was forever transformed. I was enthused to know that, in spite of all the external factors, “I am the master of my fate, and the captain of my soul”. This new revelation, forced me to bid farewell to my limiting beliefs.

How did these limiting beliefs get there?

The beliefs developed from your childhood and past experiences. We are all born into this world as blank canvases, and then our parents, community, and society set about to paint their beliefs, values, and opinions on our canvases. As the canvases are coated by various mediums, it is saturated and becomes internalized by the young impressionable mind. Beliefs, therefore, are very much based on conditioning.

Recognizing a Limiting Belief

Recognizing a limiting belief is as simple as listening to your language and being aware of your thoughts. Whenever you start a sentence with the words like “I can’t…”, “I have to…”, “I mustn’t…”, “It’s impossible…”.

How to Get Out of Your Own Way

1. Now that you’re aware of the power of your beliefs, regularly challenge your limiting beliefs. When conflicting beliefs arise, dig deep and ask yourself, “What are my beliefs about this situation?” You will uncover deep-seated subconscious beliefs that are crippling your greatness.

2. Seek out the source of your false beliefs. Recall when this belief first originated, and the events that led you to that idea. It might have been ideas you picked up from your parents, teachers, or someone hurtful. Perhaps you had a failed experience, and then a mental seed was planted then. Reflect on your insight and recognize how faulty and limiting your thinking has been. Through this observation, eliminate the thoughts that are hindering you from achieving your desired results.

3. Once limiting beliefs are removed, you will have to replace it by affirming empowering beliefs. Consider what you would like to manifest in your life, and create beliefs that build around this. You must have faith that the new belief is true, and this will enrich your life experience greatly.

4. Develop dreams that will challenge the old beliefs, and help push you out of your rut. Focus on your desires, and refuse to concentrate on what you don’t want. Don’t concern yourself with the ‘how’.  When too much attention is placed on the ‘how’, often times it sykes people out, because they can’t fathom how they can achieve their goal. So, stay motivated by keeping your eye on the prize.
