Chills ran down my spine as I heard about another school shooting that occurred this week. I didn’t bother to turn on the news to get the scoop on what happened; considering I can probably get an anxiety attack by just watching it. There’s a threat here, a war there, an epidemic everywhere. You might as well be scared to walk out of your house! With all these recent incidents of gun violence, what are you to do? What else is left for you to do, Live!
Have you ever thought about the real reason why the media continues to feed you threats? There is a motive behind it…Fearful people are easy to lead and manipulate. The more we’re bombarded with threats, is the more society is willing to completely give up their power, with no questions asked. Since repetition is the mother of skill, the media will shove the same headline in your face numerous times until the information is embedded in your subconscious mind. The overall fear and stress of the news provokes a flight or fight response, in which becomes the default emotion.
Fear is such a powerful factor, that we crave certainty; because uncertainty magnifies the feeling of vulnerability. So a leader who shows no doubt, and doesn’t second-guess a thought or action, is comforting for the fearful minded. As fear creeps in, the public surrenders all use of their independent judgement, and is forced to comply with all demands. The following two quotes best depicts my point:
“Our government has kept us in a perpetual state of fear — kept us in a continuous stampede of patriotic fervor — with the cry of grave national emergency. Always there has been some terrible evil at home or some monstrous foreign power that was going to gobble us up if we did not blindly rally behind it.” -General Douglas MacArthur
Fearful people are more dependent, more easily manipulated and controlled, more susceptible to deceptively simple, strong, tough measures and hard-line postures. … They may accept and even welcome repression if it promises to relieve their insecurities. -George Gerbner
Would you agree with the previous quotes? I sure do! It is quite disturbing to know that so many retreat and submit to the ‘powers that be‘. When in the grip of fear, it is critical that we as a people read between lines of propaganda. It is only when the people can begin to question the ‘powers that be’, will we be able to reclaim our power.
Whether you agree with me or not; you be the judge!
Has the recent isolated incidents of gun violence driven you to fear? Why? Are you empowered to do your own research, and ask your own questions, or are you just listening to what your told? Share your thoughts by leaving a comment below.
